Match Highlights: Blackpool 1-3 Chelsea

By Dylan Thomas

The scoreline flatters the Blues here but they won’t mind that one bit. Chelsea didn’t create very many chances throughout the match, but when they were given an opportunity in front of goal they took it. John Terry opened the scoring with a bullet header from a corner kick, Frank Lampard hit a brace, and Blackpool grabbed a consolation through January signing Jason Puncheon. It’s a good win, but against a more competitive side I don’t think Chelsea would have managed it.

Match Highlights: Wolves 3-3 Tottenham

By Dylan Thomas

Mark Halsey was the center of attention this afternoon when he wrongly disallowed a Wolverhampton goal with minutes to go to potentially deny the home side a win against Spurs. Every point counts for Wolves at the moment – the last thing they need are contentious decisions that end up costing them Premier League survival. Jermain Defoe hit a brace for Tottenham and Kevin Doyle did the same for Wolves, while Steven Fletcher and Roman Pavlyuchenko were on hand to make it 3-3.

‘It Was Easy!’ Dirk Kuyt Reflects On Hat Trick Against Manchester United

By Dylan Thomas

Dirk Kuyt has become an integral part of Liverpool’s first team squad since arriving in 2006 from Eredivisie side Feyenoord. Kuyt came to Liverpool with a big goal scoring reputation, but it was his all-action performances and non-stop work rate that won his place in the hearts of Liverpool supporters. While at times Kuyt has been criticized for his lack of technical ability, he always puts in a shift and works harder than any player over 90 minutes. Against Manchester United this afternoon, he showed Liverpool fans what he’s still capable of in front of goal as well as how important he is to the team’s overall performance – he’s a man Kenny Dalglish just cannot afford to lose at the moment.

Click to read the rest of the article on our official site and see what Dirk Kuyt and Kenny Dalglish had to say about today’s game:

Match Highlights: Liverpool 3-1 Manchester United

By Dylan Thomas

Dirk Kuyt was the hat-trick hero against Manchester United, but he couldn’t have done it without Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan striker had a fantastic afternoon against United’s depleted defense, and it was his extra bit of quality that inspired Liverpool to this emphatic victory. Manchester United grabbed a consolation through Javier Hernandez, but it was too little too late for the league leaders.

Match Highlights: Newcastle 1-2 Everton

By Dylan Thomas

Leon Best opened the scoring for the Magpies but his header wasn’t enough as Everton walked away winners at St. James’ Park. Finally David Moyes’ side are beginning to distance themselves from that relegation battle, but they’ve still got work to do if they want to finish in the top half this season. Newcastle are a side that should be able to hold on to a result at home, so the loss will be especially disappointing.

Match Highlights: Fulham 3-2 Blackburn

By Dylan Thomas

Steve Kean hasn’t enjoyed the best of times as Blackburn boss, but the club’s owners have shown their faith in him and plan on keeping him on as manager for another few years. In the summer, big name signings are planned and a constant and stable managerial situation is the only way for a club like Blackburn to get ahead. Fulham grabbed the win in a tight encounter which sees them climb up to 11th place. Blackburn on the other hand, trickle down to 14th. Damien Duff’s brace and Gael Givet’s red card were the talking points of the day.

Match Highlights: Bolton 3-2 Aston Villa

By Dylan Thomas

Ashley Young’s missed penalty ended up costing Gerard Houllier’s Aston Villa dearly, as they conceded a late Ivan Klasnic header and were consigned to a disappointing defeat. Aston Villa have struggled all season, but they made a few smart signings in January to boost the side. Unfortunately for them, Owen Coyle’s men had the better of the match and deserved their victory.

Match Highlights: Birmingham 1-3 West Brom

By Dylan Thomas

Birmingham lifted the Carling Cup last weekend after upsetting Arsenal at Wembley Stadium, but couldn’t find their home at home against West Brom. The Baggies worked Birmingham all over the pitch and thoroughly deserved their win; and they badly needed it too.

Kolo Toure Banned Indefinitely After Testing Positive For ‘Specified Substance’

By Dylan Thomas

Manchester City’s Kolo Toure has been banned from featuring in any first-team or reserve team football matches with his club for the foreseeable future after testing positive for a ‘specified substance,’ believed to be a weight control drug. If Kolo Toure is found innocent, in that the drug was not used for any performance enhancing purposes, then his ban will be lifted. Typically, though a ban could last anywhere betwen three and nine months – a length of time that could rule the Ivorian defender out of this season and the next one.
